continuing with the Twilight theme
A few years ago, I was given 4 cards. Each card represented the covers of the four Twilight novels. I knew I wanted to frame them but I wasn't sure how I wanted it done.
This past winter, I got a coupon in the mail for a popular craft store; they were offering their framing services at 50%off. What a bargain! So off I went with my precious cards to have them framed. I knew it would be a wee bit pricey; the cards were an odd size.
I picked out the nicest(and cheapest) frame, a mat; I wanted simple colors to make the cards pop. The employee rang in my selections, discounted it then stunned me with the total. Even after my 50% off, the total was still in the triple digits.
But I went ahead with it. And even though I spent a small fortune, I feel it was worth it. I love how they look.

Now it's time to head to the airport, pick up my bestie and go watch a movie!!

I feel like a kid at Christmas. Not only is Breaking Dawn part 1 opening tonight, my bestie arrives just before to spend the weekend so we can watch the movie together.
So much excitement!!!

One of my friends made me the bestest best gift for my birthday. I had an idea she was up to something and she got me good!
You may have noticed that I am a Twilight fan( 2 more days until Breaking Dawn!! WOO HOO!). Anyways, Cheri Lynn got me the best gift ever.
She found a wooden box and repainted it.
And inside I found these,

| Hand-painted Twilight wine glasses. There are 2 that say Twilight in black. The others have each book title in white then the symbol for each book on the other side. I LOVE them!! One of the best gifts ever to add to my Twilight collection! |

In the spring, a friend approached me about quilting a quilt. She asked the cost and I gave her a ballpark figure. A few months went by and she asked again about the quilt. That's when I discovered she wanted me to MAKE a quilt, not just quilt it. That was a whole new ballgame.
I decided I could still do the quilt for what I had originally quoted her. When I've made quilts for friends in the past, I usually don't charge much more than the cost of materials etc and in this case, I thought I would make out okay since she had asked to have the quilt made in Twilight colors; red, white and black.
She wanted a picture of Edward in the center of the quilt. I thought the easiest way to do that was to get a t-shirt with his picture on it. She bought that and than I soon realized that the color scheme we had decided on would simply not work with the t-shirt. So the fabric hunt was on.
Sadly, this was when my friend told me she couldn't pay what we had agreed on; I was less than happy and as a result, the quilt sat unmade on my table for weeks.
This past weekend, I decided enough was enough and put the quilt together. Because of the limited budget, I was stuck on how creative I could get with the quilt. I decided to do a log cabin style around the t-shirt in the middle. For each border, the sizes would be different(top/bottom borders one size, sides another).
I interfaced the back of the t-shirt and started cutting.
I started with a 2inch black border around the t-shirt; I love how it frames it!
Of course Gizmo soon came to help.

I quilted it up yesterday and of course I used the Twilight panto!
I'm not 100% with how it turned out. I really lost money on this which makes me sad; I do feel like my friend took advantage of me(and yes, she knows I feel this way). I do feel that I did the best that I could with the limited budget that I was given.
More importantly, she loves it.

Going with a group of my besties tonight to the Eclipse opening. And we aren't just seeing Eclipse. We get to watch Twilight, than New Moon THAN Eclipse!!! 7.5HOURS of movie enjoyment!! WOO HOO! And tomorrow we leave bright and early(lol!!!) for our holidays-fun times ahead!
my poor abandoned blog
Abandoned for the sake of a movie lol. But the excitement as worn down(almost. I've seen it twice in 24hours) so must get back to the swing of things.
I'm not going to bore you with all my movie premier pictues. And truth be told, it was so dark in the theater(we got to sit in the dark for 3 hours before the movie started lol. Better than standing outside and waiting though!), that the pictures aren't very good. But there are a few to share.
When even watching the commercials for New Moon got me teary, I figured I could be in for a sobfest. So I decorated a kleenex box to bring with me. And than I didn't even use it.
I did have my Twilight quilt which I got a few comments on.
I also brought some vampire teeth. And than I promptly dropped them on the floor *sob* Would have liked to have seen the theater cleaners face when they found those lol!!
I went with a great group of friends. Among them Cindy, Jill, and Andrea. Cindy was smart and brought along some knitting. I had to settle for annoying everyone with camera flashes lol. I think they were all happy when I ran out of batteries ;)
The theater was packed. We were in one of 3 theaters at this complex showing the movie. Ohhhh, funky picture taking.

I finally started on my T-shirt quilt on the weekend. And just like everyone kept telling me, it was way easier than I thought once I got started.
I interfaced the wrong side of all the T-shirt fronts. I made the interfacing as big as I could before I started cutting. Than I cut them apart. That was stressful lol.
What amazed me was the T-shirt sizes. Some of the shirts were labeled Xlarge and yet they were smaller than the small T-shirts. Insane! I should mention, I didn't pick the t-shirts by size when I purchased them, I picked them because of the fronts. 1 I lucked out on when I discovered that the back had a logo too.
Two of the shirts were small enough that I ended up having to leave a little bit of the sleeve seam in the square. I don't think it's going to be noticeable. It was either that or lose some of the T-shirt front.
After cutting the shirts, I laid them out on the floor how I wanted them to go. Was happy to see that I could make each block the same width. But I made two rows 14inchs and one row 16 just to shake things up a little.
I started with the middle row, the 16inch wide one, and started fiddling with them to figure out how long the blocks should be. Once I settled on the size, I cut the blocks than sewed on some sashing strips.
I did notice there is a lot of waste. I guess it really isn't waste when I cut the T-shirts so big originally. This is the pile after trimming all the blocks down to the correct size. I did end up running out of black interfacing so a few of them ended up with white. Hope that doesn't show through when I quilt it.

I did end up getting the rows sewn together as well. I just need to even up the sides than I can get the top sewn together. It's going together so well that I don't see a problem having it quilted next week. yay!

set adventure
Tuesday a friend and I went on an adventure. Where did we go? To visit some of the sets used in filming New Moon and Eclipse, the latest two Twilight movies. I have been to the sets before; you can see those adventures here and here.
I will not admit to how much time I spend googling and searching for set info, but it was allot. Some of it was pretty easy to figure out, other's I had got from other fans.
It was a 12 hour day. We put on roughly 300km on the car. Crossed 6 bridges and thru 1 tunnel. All in all? Best day ever!
We started off at Bella's house.
Crews started taking the house down last Wednesday. The house is(was) only a shell. I was really hoping the heavy rains we had last week would have slowed them down. We were excited to at least see what was left of the house. The friend I was with, she hadn't been to any of the sets so this was all new for her.
Next was off to a farm used for filming with Victoria and Rylie. I love how only the bottom half of the barn is freshly painted lol.
Than a house that is rumoured to be a few different sets. Is it Sam's house? Emily's? Maybe Angela's? Rumors were that this was used for New Moon too.
Than Jacob's house.
Imagine our surprise when we got to this next location. Fight scenes for Eclipse were filmed here. And what did we see? Security and black SUV's the transported the cast to and from sets.
Than up to a local lake. So exciting to see the closed for filming signs still up. More New Born scenes were shot here. And what was filmed isn't in the books so I'll just stay mum on that ;)
Our next stop was were the Forks Police station was built on the front lawn of prominent building. After a brief moment of panic with me losing my sunglasses, we were on our way again. Where were my sunglasses? Right where I had left them.
Stops 7 and 8 were a middle school used to film the graduation scene in Eclipse and a nearby park used for *the humans*.
It was long past lunch. And who knew how hard it would be to find a fast food restaurant? We ended up at a Starbucks were we were quickly hopped back up on sugar and caffeine. Next stop!
The Cullen house. The back of the house goes right down the hillside; beautiful.
Now this house WAS used for New Moon. I've heard reports of a different house used for Eclipse and heard that all Cullen house filming was done in studio. I guess we have to wait until June 30, 2010 to know for sure.
Lamplight Pub; used for more Eclipse scenes with Rylie and Victoria.
Fairmount Hotel; back in time filming telling the story of Rosalie and her fiancée Royce. Reports from the night filming occurred said that the street outside the hotel was lined with 1930s cars. I knew about this set the night they filmed; I really wish I had of gone in and seen the filming.

Vancouver's version of Forks High School for New Moon and Eclipse.
A pool? YES! All the underwater scenes in New Moon were shot here using green screens.
Now, we've been in the car for about 6 hours at this point. We have yet to find a fast food restaurant(our goal/hope was to see all the sets in the daylight so we didn't want to spend time IN a restaurant eating).
Thankfully I had a package of mints.
HAD being the operative word lol!
Last few sets were close together. I had a hard time narrowing down where these were. I had seen pictures but one google search lead me to a video. There was enough scenic footage in the video that I was able to narrow down the next set.
Again, used as Seattle with the new born vampires in Eclipse.
How scary does this alley look?
This was probably the funniest set of the day. The Paramount USED to be a movie theater. Now, it's a strip joint. This was used in New Moon for when Bella and Jessica go to Port Angeles to the movies.
And since it was on the way home, one last look at Bella's. So glad we did as this is all that was left.
20 days until New Moon. 250-odd days until Eclipse. I've had my New Moon ticket for a few weeks now. Can. not. wait

Tonight is the home opener of our local hockey team. I LOVE hockey; almost as much as I love Twilight. Anyways, had an absolutely dead day at work so I spent my morning creating this,

Cindy,Jill and I had been talking about making another trip out the the location of Bella's house for the New Moon movie. This is out third trip out lol(you can see our other trips here). It was great to get to see the house without the black screens covering most of it up. And even better, security told us we could go peek around the back. There may have been a squeal or two escape when we were told that lol
But this was not the real reason for our trip(it was a BIG part of it). The real reason, Edward. Many repeated phone calls to a toy store and they finally had more stock.
Sadly, Edward didn't join us for dinner at the Olive Garden; chicken scampi, my absolute favorite
And today, Edward joined us at work.
We had him manning the phone
Later he was checking out the Twilight pattern I was putting onto a quilt.
Wonder what trouble, I mean fun, we will get into tomorrow?
