quilt monday

Seems like a very long time since we've had one of these *grin*. I was getting all the Christmas stuff out and realized I hadn't blogged my finished fall quilt yet.

I really like how this quilt turned out. So much so that I just might make it again in some Christmas fabrics. There's still time right? lol

quilted with Blowing in the Wind
I did a fun scrappy backing using up bits of fall themed fabrics.

Now, the winner of my quilt giveaway! And the winner is...

Linda T!!

Linda, please email me your mailing info and I will get your quilt off to you.
Thanks to those that entered!!

surprises

We've had an exciting year here this year. Our oldest graduated from high school and turned 18. I turned 40 last week(woo hoo!) and next month Jim and I celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary.
This year we wanted to do something big; but we weren't sure what. We were living in California when we had our 5th anniversary. Went to NewYork City for our 10th and for our 15th it was off to Honolulu.

We debated different places; knew we wanted to go somewhere warm but we aren't sit on the beach peoples. One night Jim mentioned the idea of a cruise. Next thing I knew, he did this.

A 12 night Mediterranean cruise! We fly into Istanbul, Turkey(!!!!!), spend a few days there then board the ship. We have 3 more ports in Turkey before heading to the Greek Islands, Naples and ending in Rome.
This is seriously a dream come true; I've only ever wanted to go to Turkey and Greece in Europe and we get to hit them both with one shot.

A few weeks ago it was my bloversary that I totally missed. And I want to share some love with you. So I am giving away this quilt

The quilt measures roughly 56x56. It was pieced and quilted by me.

The pattern is a freebie from Moda Bake Shop.

So leave a comment on this post and I'll draw a winner when I get home(on the 25th).
This giveaway is open internationally :)

applique and a giveaway

I l-o-v-e appliqué and nothing is more frustrating when I have an appliqué project I want to do and I have no fusible web.

A few weeks ago I got an email from Label Stick asking if I would be interested in trying it out and than doing a review. Yes please!

Lapel Stick is basically a glue stick for fabrics; it doesn't get much easier than this to use. And like their website says it's a temporary non-toxic fabric adhesive that goes on in seconds and dries clear for Quilting, Sewing, Crafting, and Embroidery - replaces baste stitching, pinning, tapes, spray adhesives, and stabilizers. My favorite part? It won't gum up your needles or machines!

I've used Lapel Stick a few times; I have a table runner I made years ago where I didn't sew down the appliqué edges.

Lapel stick to the rescue!

I'm currently working on an appliqué baby quilt. I didn't want the heaviness of fusible web behind the shapes so I pulled out the Lapel Stick.

I traced my shape,

Cut out the circles and glued them down.

And the best part? After machine stitching 17 of these, no gummy sewing machine needle!

Want to try Lapel Stick? I have TWO to giveaway. Leave me a comment and I'll draw the winner on Monday.

i am in love

With this ruler. Love it love it love it! It makes stitch in the ditch so much more fun.

I also love the size!

I used it to do all the ditching on this latest custom quilt that Helen had made for her granddaughter. With the size of the photo blocks, the only quilting I could do was in the sashings(parallel straight lines) and piano keys in the border. The fun part of this quilt was ironing the fusible batting to the back of the quilt top. That took longer to do than it did to quilt the quilt!

And the winner of my giveaway is Paula! Congrats! Thanx to everyone who entered. I just might have another giveaway soon ;)

how about a giveaway?

I've been on a complete purging tear the past few days. Yesterday at work, mom and I gave away close to 300 quilting magazines. I got rid of 50 or so of mine today and 60 stamping magazines. Than it was onto the boys' bookshelves and another 100 books out the door.

Tonight I tackled what I refer to as my bin of quilt. It is the bin that all my quilt kits or patterns with fabric go into. Some of them I will simply never ever do; mostly because my personal taste has changed.

That turns out great for my readers :)

I am giving away this kit. There is fabric and instructions for BOTH these quilts. It is a paper pieced project. The rooster quilt measures 19 1/2 X 24 and the rooster with extras measures 22 x 26 1/2.

So leave a comment; you don't have to answer any questions to be entered. If I get over 100 entries, I may just add another prize and give you all another chance to win.

Giveaway will close on Monday; let's say midnight pacific time. I'll announce the winner(or winners) on Tuesday.

Good luck!

Bradie over at Quiltcetera is giving away this layer cake. So hurry over and enter. Or don't and let me win ;)

card friday

Had such a fabulous day! So great that I am just getting on here now at 10pm to post for today lol.

Started off meeting a friend this morning at my favoritest restaurant. Nothing beats a rainy Friday morning than a great cup of tea and conversation with a wonderful friend.

Buckingham Palace tea; oh so yummy. And the teapots, I love them all! I hadn't seen the one before that I got today. Lovely!

Than it was off to school. Today was my day to help out with lunch supervision. I was very happy to have today as an *indoor day* since it was so very wet outside.

After, Mom and I went to Hamels Fabrics. I have signed up for Rachel's Modern Siggy Swap. I knew which fabrics I wanted and to my happiness, they were on sale!

Mom and I have both doing Rachel's Pinwheel Sampler. I went with Portebello Market for this one. Can't wait to get started on it.

When we got back to my place, I was thrilled to discover Dad and Jim working away on our dead dryer. I am thrilled to report that it is now working-yay! Even Gizmo got in on the diagnosing of the problem lol.

So now, Card Friday. I may have shown this card before. If so, please forgive me!

And the winner of my giveaway is, Judy from My Front Porch! Thanx for entering everyone!

giveaway!

Just because. Winner gets both these brand-new patterns. One for a bag and one for a pillow.

All you need to do is tell me what movie you are looking forward to most this year. As many of you may think mine is Eclipse, the third in the Twilight Saga. It's not. A very very close second to Toy Story 3; can not wait for that!

So, tell me what your most awaited movie of this year is and I'll announce the winner on Friday. Good luck!
