quilt monday

We celebrated a wedding this past Saturday for two of my favourite people. When they announced their engagement, I knew I had to make them a quilt. A scrappy trip quilt.

The quilt is entirely made from scraps(now I can get the lid back on my scrap bin lol) except for the red chain that flows through the quilt. It gives the quilt an Irish Chain look which I find fun.

The scrappy trips I have previously done I quilted with a meander; this one I did a pattern; Bright and Breezy.

Still my favourite block.

I really must make one of these for myself!

secret sewing

I had decided this year that I wasn't going to do as many quilted gifties as years past and I actually had them finished back in October. So of course with a week to go, I'm busily trying to get a few things finished before Christmas.

I made all these scrappy trip along blocks earlier this year. And yesterday I got them sewn together into a quilt top.

I finished up my Christmas Swoon top and put the leftovers right to good use.
One can never, ever have too many pinwheels.

This one is going to be hard to give away.

I finish up work for the year on Thursday; I still have my fingers crossed for tomorrow but we'll see. I need to get my Christmas gifties quilted too!

quilt monday

Early January #scrappytripalong took over Instagram. I quickly jumped in and finished my quilt top in 3 days.

I finally got the binding on this past weekend so now I can really enjoy it.

quilted with a large meander

I pieced together a crazy backing.

Because the quilt is so busy; I kept the quilting simple and went with an overall meander.

So what does one do when you finish a scrappy trip along?
You start a second.

I've finished 20 blocks. And have a crazy 40 more to go.

I may have gotten carried away.

scrappy

Saturday I had the idea of sorting out my scrap bin so I dumped it.

I guess it was really packed in there!

I sorted it into a get rid of pile, cut into 2.5inch squares and usable pieces. Sunday I cut, ironed and sorted for 5.5 hours and ended up with;

This bag of 2.5 inch squares

A bag of binding

A garbage bag of fabrics for our mini quilt creators at the local guild

And the best part?
Another bin of 2.5x16inch for another Scrappy Trip Along!

it's finished!!

my scrappy trip along is done!! And I love it oh so very, very much.

It measures 61x85(not ironed so it may increase by an inch or two).
I wish I had some minkey to back it with but this sucker is going straight to work today and getting quilted up!!

And what's next?
I've had these DS fabrics for just shy of a year now to make a baby quilt. Now I need to figure out which pattern I was planning on using for them lol.

Or maybe I should put the baby quilt on hold and make a new ironing board cover? Mine is nasty!

addicted

I have been totally and absolutely sucked into the Scrappy Trip Along. All I have done the past two days is sew, sew and sew more blocks. And I couldn't love it more.

I have 26 finished blocks; 9 more to complete. Than iron and decide on a layout. I'll admit that it's taken me longer than I expected to do the quilt but it has been so much fun. I almost wish now that I had done one totally scrappy. Notice I said almost ;)

Time to post this and get back to the sewing machine. Not going to bed tonight until at least the 9 blocks are finished. And I just might start ironing them all too. I'll keep you posted.

2013

A quick thank you to everyone who has emailed etc checking in on me. I am actually doing really well; I was never actually sick which is good news! I saw the doctor yesterday and am going in for a few more tests; so far they don't know what happened. What we do know is all good news, now it's just a matter of solving what happened in hopes that it never happens again.

So, 2013 eh? It's hard to believe that the first week of this year is almost over. I got some sewing in on New Years Day and have my first finish for 2013.

Dear MrClaus

The original plan was to take this layer cake and make some table runners for last minute Christmas gifts. But since that didn't happen, I just had to make something for myself. This turned out to be a good size, 62x74; perfect for snuggling on the couch.

I snuck down to Joann's  and picked up this cute flannel for the backing.

Now that this is finished, I can focus on the Scrappy Trip Along. Search the hashtag #scrappytripalong on Twitter or Instagram or Scrappy Trip Along on Flikr for more details.

I pulled some fabric from my stash and finally got it cut last night.

I'm already thinking I want to do another, and do that one with truly just scrap fabrics. Join in the fun!
