i loves it

Inspired by Nesting Place.

I started with all these,

Pulled off the backs, all the nails/clips/staples and got rid of the glass. And in one case, the mirror.

Primed them,

And many, many, MANY coats of paint later,

I laid them out on the floor first, fiddled where I wanted each to go. Than out came the level and with Jim's help, the finished project.

Now if I just need to figure out what color to repaint the red in the dining room.

christmas at our house

I LOVE Christmas and usually go all out but this year I've pared things down quite a bit. Mostly because I just haven't had the time but also I want things simpler, cleaner. I thought I would take you on a tour of our house now.

In our dining room. I completely forgot I had bought the twig ball thingies last year. Jim is going to freak when he realizes I made holes in the new wall lol.

This is *my* tree. It's our main tree; it has all my fancy matching decorations and is usually themed. This is the second year I've gone brown and gold and I love it. And I really love my white pumpkin under the tree!

I love this picture. Why you ask? Because the wall is DONE!! And it looks fabulous. Before you say anything, the corner where the red wall and the brown wall meet, I thought I had some red paint leftover. Well, I don't lol. So that will need repainted in January.

The red chair was a birthday present and it finally arrived yesterday; only 9 days later than we were told lol. I'm so glad we finally have it. And now I am thinking that we should have gotten the ottoman to match. Maybe Santa will bring it ;)

Just after I took this next picture, Gizmo jumped up and attacked my little dried flower tree and pulled off most of the flowers :( Monster. So it's been put away. Maybe I can enjoy it next year lol.

I saw this next tree last year at a Christmas open house sale. I went back a few days later after kicking myself for not buying it. I was happily surprised that it was still there.

And because of that little tree, my kitchen Christmas decorating has changed this year. This runner usually sits on our piano bench during the holidays. But this year I could not find the Christmas table topper that normally goes in the kitchen(where it is I have no idea!!) So I put this in here and realized it matches my little tree. I think after Christmas I'll have to hit a few sales and look for some gingerbread themed decorations and go crazy with that theme in the kitchen for next year ;)

One of my new favorite spots in the house is right at our front door. This is an old sewing machine that I just got and it fits perfect. I am putting all our received Christmas cards in the star box; it is perfect! And yes, another white pumpkin! I saw on a blog in October about saving white pumpkins for Christmas and I am so glad I did. I love how unexpected they are. And if you know who blogged about them, please let me know so I can credit them for the idea. I may paint this in the new year; I haven't decided yet. I sort of like the oldness of it unpainted.

You have no idea how long it took me to get that above picture. I had to deal with this first. Gizmo seems to think that the sewing machine table was put there just for him.

Lastly, our family room. This is the family tree. Usually we have all the decorations the kids have made, any first Christmas decorations go on this. Instead this year we've gone simple. Reason being, that orange beastly cat(I really truly love him) has been mauling this tree. The garland is mostly shredded. The poor angel keeps getting dragged off the tree to parts unknown in the house. Her head is literally barely hanging onto her body lol.

I've also moved our nutcracker collection down here this year. There are so many of them now, I ran out of places to put them upstairs. So they circle the room on the little shelf.

Hope you've enjoyed our little tour. Thanx for tagging along.

December 1st

And I am feeling totally overwhelmed.

My living room has gone from this,

To this.

Hopefully tonight Jim and I can start getting paint on it. I absolutely love how much bigger the rooms look already. And we've(okay, JIM lol) have gotten this done really quickly for what had to be done.

I haven't started any Christmas cards. But I'm ready to go.

I usually have them in the mail December 1st. This year I think it may be a little later. I'm doing only 2 designs and hopefully that will make them go faster. I have nothing planned Friday night and all day Saturday except cardmaking.

And I haven't even started my Christmas quilting.

I have 14.5 quilts to finish at work by the 11th(but it's going to be the 15th lol). Than I can get started on these. I am making 5 of the peace banner and 3 of the fish. And two more projects I couldn't show that are partially started and if the recipient picks at my blog, it will totally give it away lol. The packaged quilt is the biggest project I have to make; that's on schedule for Sunday.

Writing it all down, has made everything seem more manageable. I know it will all get done in time. Even if it means giving Christmas gifts with the bindings not entire finished. Again ;)

remember

This post? Well, *the wall* hasn't been touched since. I realized Friday that we were going to have Christmas here with this ugly ugly wall. And that would not do!!!

Jim and I decided that the easiest fix for the wall was to fill the panel edges, sand and paint. We had thought of just drywalling right over the wood but too much dust with all that sanding.

Imagine our surprise on Saturday when Jim was getting ready to start sanding when he discovered drywall under the wood. Really??

Out came the tools and off came the wood.

Happily, the drywall is in pretty good condition. We have some work to do with fixing it before we can paint. Hopefully that won't take too long. The kids are begging every day if we can start putting up decorations lol.

Imagine our surprise when Jim pulled off this piece

and found this.

It confirmed our thoughts that the gas fireplace was a recent edition. Especially when we discovered that the wood paneling continues behind the brick!

It's going to look great when we get finished

opps!

Sorry for the unplanned absence. Wednesday we got a newsletter home from our boys's school; it was being closed Thursday and Friday because 40% off the school population had the flu. No one has confirmed if it was/is H1N1 but the school was told to shut down and is currently being entirely disinfected.

So instead of going into work or spending 2 bonus days crafting, I decided to tear about our family room and paint.

Turned out to not be the smartest idea I've had. With 4 kids home and Jim trying to work, the only other TV is in his office. It was a tad chaotic lol.

And with the painting decision being almost spur of the moment, I didn't have any time to schedule some posts for you. Sorry about that!!

Now the family room is back to normal. The paint wasn't a big change but it's freshened up the room. The color is lighter than I had expected but it makes the room look so much lighter and bigger. And hopefully it will look good with some more changes coming hopefully next week ;)

I did get two cards made today. And yes, I used the penguin again. I have certainly gotten my $9 worth out of him!!

I'll show the other card later next week. It's off in the mail for now.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

mischief

Cindy came over this morning to quilt.
Neither one of us were getting anything done when we started talking about this post on decorating.

We have a huge wall in the living/dining room that is wallpapered. It was wallpapered when we moved in. I pulled the wallpaper off to paint instead and discovered 1970's dark paneling. So I took the easy route and slapped up new wallpaper.

I've wanted to put drywall right up over the wallpaper and start fresh. I just had to convince Jim lol. Than Cindy and I were wondering, what type of paneling was back there?

So we looked.

Just a little bit. I figured if we looked at a small section, I could easily hide it. It's not like we use the dining room for more than folding laundry lol.

But than, the wallpaper literally just peeled off the wall. So we kept going.

We pulled all the wallpaper down when I realized, maybe we should take the chair rail down too? lol

A quick clean up. And we were hoping to sneak out for our lunch date before Jim realized what was going on.

We even moved everything back. Sure looks different. Jim and I have decided to attempt to pain the paneling. Should be entertaining. Good thing I love painting. Anyone want to come help?

weekend warrior

That is what Jim is today. We have lived here 6 years and I've been asking(begging/pleading) with Jim to pressure wash the house. Today was the big day.

No slacking off for me either. I got the whole front garden weeded. I'm thinking now I probably should have slathered on some sunscreen.

The house really needed done-ewww

Safety first lol.

Jim even moved the boat and did that area too

Sludge

So much for those socks

I wonder what I can get him to do tomorrow? lol

Jim laid in bed last night planning how we could keep our old entertainment center even though the new TV doesn't fit into it.

this is what he came up with. we did end up having to cut a foot(12inches lol) off my cutting table(sob) but i love how it turned out. it really has made better use of the room.
wonder how long it will stay this clean? lol
