not a quilt quilt monday

Sorry nothing new quiltie to show today. I have so many things at the almost completed stage and can't take pictures of them yet.

As a result, I'm going to show another bag that I made. I had cute both of these out when we had our first bag night. Mom had commented that she would like a new mailbag for work so that is what I had planned to make.

I cut it out big; 21inches. I wasn't able to finish it that night so I took it with me on our holidays and got it finished there.

It is HUGE. I mean GIANT lol.

I didn't want the second one that big so I cute 6 inches off it before I sewed it together. I also added a pocked to the smaller one.

Here you can see how big the first bag is. Mom loves it; you can cram ALLOT of mail into it lol

You put water into?

That was a quote from last night. And to protect the innocent(giggle) I'm not going to reveal WHO said that, but it was pretty funny. Or maybe we were just all overtired.

Anyway, last night Sarah invited a bunch of us over to have another bag making night. Cindy and I were both going to do the large patchwork bag from the fall issue of Quilts and More. Sarah and Marcia were making more of these totes and Alexa was doing a messenger bag

I really wish I had precut my fabric. I think it took just under an hour to cut all the pieces. Than I discovered after I had cut almost all my interfacing that it WASN'T fusible-ahhhhhhh. But than Cindy had the idea to sew the bag together and than put a whole sheet of interfacing on it, instead of per piece. I did that and it has worked great. Thanx for the great tip Cindy!

I didn't get the entire bag done. And it's a BIG bag lol. I used leftovers of Moda Chocolat(still my favorite) See how it looks like a fabric garbage can? lol

And here's the completed(mostly lol) bags.

Mine is on the left, than Sarah's two tote bags she made for her sons to take to their piano lessons. Next is Marcia's tote(LOVE this Pixie Belle fabric from Fabricland. Really fighting bringing some home lol.) Marcia also made a little holder for all her crochet needles etc; isn't it cute? Than we have Alexia's messenger bag(now that fabric I am not going to fight getting. It's a beautiful denim. That will soon be living in my fabric stash lol) And than Cindy's In Town Bag by Amy Butler

We were able to convince Alexa to model her messenger bag but she said we had to cut off her head lol

Cindy and I headed home at midnight. I have to finish up my bag lining and than shove the whole thing together. Sarah and Marcia actually started more bags when we left and Sarah completed one of these 4patch Swing Bags but I believe she made her's bigger. Check out the changes she made. It's posted on her blog.

snack saturday

Peanut Butter-Brownie Pie

1 pkg. (450 g) brownie mix
1 pkg. (4-serving size) Vanilla Instant Pudding
1-1/2 cups cold milk
1/2 cup Smooth Peanut Butter, divided
1 cup thawed Whipped Topping

HEAT oven to 350ºF

PREPARE brownie batter as directed on package; pour into greased 9-inch pie plate. Bake 30 min. Cool completely. Scoop out centre, leaving 1/2-inch-thick rim around edge and thin layer of brownie on bottom. Reserve removed pieces.

BEAT pudding mix and milk with whisk 2 min. Add 1/3 cup peanut butter; mix well. Stir in whipped topping. Spoon into crust; top with reserved brownie pieces.

MICROWAVE remaining peanut butter in microwaveable bowl on HIGH 1 min.; stir. Drizzle over pie. Refrigerate 2 hours or until pie is set.

fun times

Yesterday I headed down to Washington State with my mom and a family friend to visit some fabric stores and of course, Target.

First stop was Tangles Quilt Store; I haven't been to this one before. I LOVE this store.

Than off to Fourth Corner Quilts. Been here before and it's another favorite of mine.

Our final fabric destination, Joanns Fabrics. It's like the mothership calling us home lol! I had to take a picture of this display in Joann's lol

pumpkin time

Fall is my absolute favorite season. I've gotten almost all my fall cards made and ready to mail out(yes, I seriously do that lol)

I love this card, but not happy that I didn't cut parts of it straight. And of course I didn't notice until it was too late to take it apart and fix

late night sewing

Last night I wandered down the street to Cindy's place. The new Quilts and More magazine had been released earlier in the week and we had plans to make the Swing Bag.

I do love how this turned out; just not happy with how small it is. I think some funky photographing was done in taking the magazine picture or the model they used was very tiny. We did change the strap from webbing to a single fabric strap; I like the look of the fabric strap better.

I'm debating about selling this bag(if you are interested, let me know). Or maybe I'll keep it for carrying around my favorite book

Strawberry Freeze

12 CHIPS AHOY! Cookies
1 pkg. (250 g) Brick Cream Cheese, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1 can (355 mL) frozen berry punch concentrate, thawed
3 cups thawed Whipped Topping
1 cup crushed strawberries

ARRANGE cookies in single layer on bottom of 9-inch springform pan; set aside.

BEAT cream cheese and sugar in large bowl with mixer until well blended. Gradually beat in punch concentrate. Whisk in whipped topping and berries until well blended. Pour over cookies.

FREEZE several hours or until firm. Remove from freezer 15 min. before serving. Let stand at room temperature to soften slightly.

a day at the fair

When I was little, my parents used to take us down to the NorthWest Washington Fair every summer. This year we were finally able to take down the boys

My favorite part of the fair is the animals and the quilts. They had a great display of quilts. Here are a few of my favorites

last saturday

I got a chance to do some stamping; it had been w.a.y too long since I had last stamped. And even better, I got to spend the evening with a dear friend.

This is one of the cards I created. I am notorious for going stamping in a group and making, if I am lucky lol, ONE card. Saturday night, I made FIVE-woo hoo lol

I got this stamp set(it's from Stampin Up) way back in June. Or maybe it was May? Either way, I finally got the rubber mounted and played with. Love this set!

Hope you have a great day. Hard to believe there is only 2 weeks(give or take) until school goes back. Today we are off on a family adventure!

wordless wednesday

one more day

Of work this week. Today was a great day; it felt good to get back with the longarm after almost a 3 week break. And tonight I got to spend it with Cindy and Jill. We seem to have started a Tuesday night movie habit(not that any of us are complaining) Tonight we saw Julie & Julia; I highly recommend it!

I'm hoping tomorrow goes well and than I can get this cutie quilted. I was hoping to get it done before we went on holidays so I could deliver it in person but it wasn't meant to be and Canada Post will be delivering it for me. I bought the green fabric years ago and in earlier this year I found the whit/pink floral that matches the flower in the green print perfectly. I'm really happy with how this turned out.

back to work

I've enjoyed having the past 2 weeks off work. I was really hoping to get through August and not do any customer quilting but it's not turning out that way. I am happy that I should only have to work maybe 4 days the rest of the summer-YAY. I like that

Was a stay at home day. All of us are finally home from camp, sleepovers and overnighters to Grandma's. I was planning on spending the day firmly attached to my sewing machine

The day was going pretty good. Then I started to buttonhole a wall hanging I was trying to get finished up. And wouldn't you know it, my sewing machine decides to just konk out. I can sew it straight lines but buttonholing? No go. So I than go to do the fun task of ripping out buttonholing and not destroy my wallhanging. Luckily, the only casualty was a leaf that hadn't stuck all the way when I ironed down the applique; not a big deal

The big deal was(is? lol) I wanted to finish this TODAY. Not next week(or who know's when my machine will be repaired) *sigh* It's cute though isn't it? To save myself a step, I was buttonholing through the batting and backing as well for quilting; I really like that look. Plus it's faster in most cases lol

And not to be discouraged, I pulled out a layer cake I've been saving and went at it. Got it all cut up and it is currently being worked into a new project.

I've had this layer cake for a few months and truth be told, only bought it because of the top piece of fabric. I was very pleased with the yummy prints and colors that were revealed as I cut my way through it

Blueberry Tart


1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled), plus more for dusting
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
8 tablespoons (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

6 cups (six 1/2-pint containers) fresh blueberries, rinsed and dried
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 teaspoons finely grated lemon zest
3 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
2/3 cup sugar
Pinch of salt

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a food processor, combine flour, sugar, salt, and butter; process until large moist crumbs form (dough should hold together when squeezed).

Transfer dough to a 9-inch round tart pan with a removable bottom; with floured fingers, press evenly into bottom and up sides. Freeze until firm, about 15 minutes; prick bottom of dough all over with a fork. Bake until golden, 20 to 25 minutes; cool completely.

Meanwhile, reserve 1 cup of the prettiest berries for topping. In a medium saucepan, bring 1/4 cup water and 1 1/2 cups berries to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat; simmer, stirring occasionally, until berries begin to break down, 3 to 4 minutes.

In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with 2 tablespoons water; stir into berries in pan. Add lemon zest and juice, sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil; reduce heat. Simmer, stirring, just until mixture begins to thicken, 30 to 60 seconds. Remove from heat.

Stir in remaining 3 1/2 cups fresh berries. Immediately pour hot berry mixture into cooled tart shell, and smooth with a spatula.

Scatter reserved berries on top, pressing down lightly to help them adhere. Refrigerate until cool, about 30 minutes and up to overnight.

french lessons

Before I went on holidays, I picked up Amy Butler's Frenchy Bag pattern hoping I could make one while I was away.

Erica was pretty excited by the pattern and she cut out a bag for each of us

The bags were super easy to put together. We got Erica's entirely completed and mine to the second last step in about 2 hours. Not bad!

card friday

how was your evening??

I had just finished washing the dinner dishes. Jim was heading to the river to do some salmon fishing. I was looking forward to spending my evening finishing off this cute baby quilt, when wait a sec; ewwww, what is that??

Both sides of the kitchen sink started filling with water. I quickly turned off the dishwasher and called Jim. Than the fun started

5 hours later, 2 trips to 2 seperate hardware stores(1 being a 40minute round trip away) and the sink is unclogged.

Now to clean up this and get to bed

I have been completely bitten by the bag obsession. I love how fast you can whip one right up.

I made these two while in Calgary last week. Both are fully reversible. The red one has the yellow floral inside and the floral bag has green fabric that matches the red on the inside. Clear as mud? lol
