good times

This has been an interesting week. Tuesday night, Boy4 as injured; as in a concussion, broken left arm and a sprained right wrist. Good times eh? Now we have two weeks of him on zero activity before he gets clearance on the concussion and has his arm xrayed again. Did I mention he's left handed? Good times, good times.

Before all the fun and games, I was able to finish off my jelly roll star.

Sadly, I do not love this quilt. I regret the colours I used and struggled with finishing this. I lamed out and did nothing special with the borders and just continued with the background.

I will probably make it again. I would love one in a two colour quilt. For now, I need to figure out how to quilt this and what to do with it.

special delivery

Sunday morning I'm sitting in church when I get a text saying 'my water broke'. My brother and sister in law were expecting their first baby and he was on the way.

Turns out he really wanted to arrive and once they got to the hospital, it was all hands on deck. The next text we got was to announce his arrival.

So what did we do? Jump in our car for a dash across the Rocky Mountains to meet our nephew.

Not even 24hours old; here he is.
So worth the 18hours of driving for a 2 hour visit!!

And now that he is here, I should get moving on his quilt lol. I've been working on it and been posting pics to instagram but always in black and white. We knew they were having a boy but it was to be a secret. I knew the fabric colours would give it away. Or maybe not lol.

The fabrics are the lightest to darkest of a teal blue and an aqua green. I could not get the colours to pick up right in the picture sadly.

As for the quilt, well, that's still a surprise. The baby shower is next week; I better get sewing!

summer time

Grad was last night. I am now the mom to two high school graduates. Huh? lol How are they old enough? How am I old enough?

Crazy small grad class this year. Another reason why private school is so awesome.

With school now being out, things might be quiet on and off here. I'm not taking the summer off work-wise. Especially when I get to quilt stunning quilts like this one from Ginger.

This is just the back; check out the front!

Ginger made this for her daughter and son in law's wedding anniversary. Isn't it gorgeous?

Happy Summer!!

laundry, laundry and more laundry

We had such an absolutely amazing trip! Here's a few highlights.

Now I need to start yet another load of laundry and head off to work!

finally!!

Way back in January of 2013, Jim and I started planning a grad trip for Boy1.  So much planning and secrecy was put into the trip and on commencement night, we surprised A with the trip.

Fast forward to the very first day of school and A was in his first university class when I got a text asking me when were we going away? And yup, Jim and I planned A's grad trip for smack dab in the middle of exam week. So we had to move the trip.

And today is the big day! It's finally a go and there is a great amount of excitement as we pack up the last few things because we are heading off to....

New York City!

Jim and I have been before(10yrs ago this exact week lol) and this time all 6 of us are going. It's going to be crazy fun!

See you next week!!

weekend wrap-up

We had a fabulous Easter weekend. The weather turned out to be better than forecasted so we enjoyed lots of time outside.

Even though today was a holiday, I ended up working. I lost some time last week and needed to make it up to keep on schedule and with Jim working today as well, it worked out(lol).

I was able to sneak in some sewing time and managed to finally get boy2's quilt top together; now it just needs borders.

Hope you had a fabulous weekend as well.

spring break

We are just finishing week 1 of our 2 week Spring Break here. Last Friday, Jim and boy2 left for Mexico on a mission trip with our church. I was looking forward to a fun week with the other boys when things changed.

My dad spent Valentine's Day in the hospital. After more test and too many dr visits, we learned he had blocked arteries and was placed on a waiting list to have an angiogram done.

Monday, dad was not in good shape. We know now that he had a heart attack Friday night and another one Monday morning. On Tuesday, dad decided he needed to go back to the hospital.

Dad was admitted and told he would have his angiogram within 48hours. Wednesday night, dad suffered another heart attack; this one was a biggie. Thankfully he was in the hospital; the cardiologist had told us that day that he only had a 40% chance of surviving another one if he wasn't receiving medical care.

Thursday morning dad was whisked off to a bigger hospital where he had his angiogram and was able to get two stents put into one of the main arteries in his heart. He was brought back to our local hospital that evening and was released home yesterday.

Dad and I were both supposed to go on this trip with Jim. Dad cancelled because of his health; I cancelled not wanting to leave mom and dad with our other boys in case something happened with dad. In the end, we made the right decision. And next week we can have some fun.

christmas eve

24hours to go. Are you ready?

I got my Christmas Swoon quilted. It just might be on the wall come tomorrow morning!

I quilted two pieces of minkee for a special little girl. I love how the quilting looks textured.

I have all my Christmas presents quilted and have the binding on 3 to finish up. One will get gifted with the binding not sewn down but I can do that while relaxing with family on Christmas Day.

I may not be around much over the next two weeks while I spend time with my family.

From our family to yours,
Merry Christmas

sea legs and jet lag

Hello again! We arrived home Sunday night and been trying to get back into the swing of  'real' life; the jet lag is killing us lol. I wanted to blog last night(Tuesday) but after I came home from work, made dinner and went to watch TV with the boys, I was asleep by 8pm and slept right through until this morning. Today I fueled up with some Starbucks on my way home from work and it's after 8pm now so fingers crossed I don't konk out in the next half hour lol.

I have a few pictures to show you. I took just over 3000 so it was hard to narrow them down!

We flew from Vancouver into London. We ended up sitting for 90minutes on the tarmac in Vancouver; the plane fuel was put into the wrong tank apparently(eek!) The flight was long(9.5hours) and for the first time ever, I flew without having to medicate lol. It was awesome. And flying into the sunrise? Amazing!

We flew from London into Istanbul, Turkey and talk about a culture shock. There was next to no English; we had no idea where we were going and we were exhausted. After some stressful moments, we ended up finding where our hotel shuttle was and we were on our way.

I woke up the next morning with the 5am prayer call in Istanbul. The sun was just coming up and was stunning.

Now time to get to our ship!
And what a beauty she is.

Our first day was exploring Istanbul.

First day at sea on day two.

Day three, Ephesus.
Standing where the apostle Paul preached? Surreal.

I took so many pictures of our ship. This was in Bodrum, Turkey on day four.

Day five, the rock tombs in Marmaris, Turkey.

And swimming in the Mediterranean Ocean.

Day 6 brought us to Rhodes, Greece.

Santorini, Greece on Day 7.

I loved this town so very, very much!
The blue roofs; stunning.

It was also the only tendered stop on our cruise; so neat.

Off to Athens on Day 8.
We got into port and were greeted with a thunder and lightening storm. And wow, did it ever rain!

Day 9, Mykonos

And the windmills. Loved the windmills.

Day ten was our second and last day at sea.

Day eleven, we landed in Naples Italy to another storm. And a storm it was.
That it is hail. Cars were literally stopping on the freeway; they don't get snow in Italy this close to sea level lol.

Pompeii

See the water spots on my lens? It was POURING. So hard that at one point, our guide pulled us all into a roofed house for protection. And the lightening; crazy!

Once leaving Pompeii, we went on a drive up the Italian coast; the Amalfi coast.
Stunning.

Our #dreamtrip ended in Rome. Sadly there was no time to see the city; we were off the ship before the sun to make our flights home.

As I said earlier, we had a fantastic time. The trip was so much more than either of us imagined it being. And the cruise? Already planning our next one!

Don't forget, I have a giveaway going right now; I'll draw the winner on Saturday. You can still enter here.
