it's a looooooooooong weekend!
Canadian Thanksgiving in Monday and the boys have been off school Thursday and Friday. Yesterday was spent doing errands and cleaning the house; today was a lazy day. I had plans of sewing all day but I lazed around reading most of the day and that was fine too.
What are my plans for the rest of the weekend? Besides a yummy turkey dinner and spending time with family and friends, I have these to keep me busy.
Getting my Sonnet quilt trimmed up and the borders on.

A new pumpkin table topper. This one has been sitting and waiting for 2 years for me to get too!

A triple Irish chain for a special someone.

And if I have time, I'm eying a few projects in my new favorite book.

Have a great weekend!!!!

to wash or not to wash
As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I never wash my quilts after I've quilted them. I love the crisp new feeling; I also don't prewash unless I'm using really dark colors and lots of white. But yesterday I did something I never do; I washed a quilt soon as the binding was done.
This is a heavily appliqued quilt and the backing fabric was really stiff and unfun. I knew it needed a quick wash to make it all cozy and comfy.
I'm thrilled wtih how nicely it washed up. It hardly looks washed; just well loved. I'll apologize in advance for the crappy pictures; had curling this afternoon and missed taking pictures in the gorgeous sunshine we were blessed with today.

I actually quilted this way back in August and just got around to finishing the binding(and I still have 6 quilts to finish binding on that I have yet to blog lol!) I got this kit from Quilts Canada in May.

Quilted with Ribbon Rose.
The backing fabric is one we have at work. When we purchased it, we weren't' aware of how stiff the fabric would be once opened so we've saved it for our own quilts. It matched this one perfectly and washed up beautifully.

i should be blogging
But I am exhausted. Saturday our church held a community outreach for lower income and homeless people. It was amazing; you can see a brief glimpse of it here. It was a very loooooong day. Sunday I was back teaching Sunday school; and this year my class is a handful lol.
I was so overtired last night that I didn't sleep well and ended up having a very unproductive day at work. So now I am behind for the week; yay. Not.
So I didn't get around to getting a picture of a quilt to show you. I'm going with the reason that it's too dark to get a good picture now. Plus I've done something with this quilt that I don't normally do; I've washed it. The backing fabric was/is very stiff and uncomfy; so into the washing machine it went. Why am I not a fan of washing quilts right away? I really really love the crispness of quilts when they are first finished.
But I do have something to show you. Over the summer I had two friends move away. I made these new home cards for them.

And just because this made me laugh.
