I lucked out with some spare time and had a random layer cake. Could I make something with it? It was also a Saturday night of a long weekend, no quilt stores open until Tuesday. Could I make this work?
I lucked out with some kona yardage that matched the layer cake perfectly. And sewing quickly commenced.

Actually a funny story behind this. I had originally planned to donate this quilt once finished but one of the boys quickly claimed it as his own lol.
Once the quilt top was done, the next challenge was backing. Did I have enough in my stash?
You betcha.
How fun did that turn out?
I also found a darker solid that made the perfect binding.
Pretty much a success all around!
