quilt monday

I did what was to be a quick table runner for a friend's birthday last week. I cut it out and started sewing on Thursday. We were spending Friday at the lake so it was perfect timing to sit in the sunshine and do the binding.
Instead it took FOR-EVER to quilt it. I did straight lines using my sewing machine and I ended up spending 4.5 hours, yes, hours lol, quilting it. But in the end, it was all worth it.

This is supposed to be a Christmas themed runner but it looks fabulous with the colours I chose.
You can see the amount of quilting on the back. Lots and lots of straight lines. I also machine stitched through the backing on the applique to anchor it down some more.

I really love these colours; I might have to do another for myself.

1 cup fresh blueberries
3/4 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
2 eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk

Preheat oven to 375ºF. In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter and the sugars; and lemon zest and eggs and beat well. Gradually add in dry ingredients and milk; beat well. Gently fold in the berries. Drop by spoon fulls on lightly greased cookie sheets. Bake at 375ºF for 10 to 12 minutes. Makes 3-4 dozen.

snack saturday

Lemon Square Bars

2 cups sifted flour
1 cup icing sugar
1 cup butter, melted
2 cups white sugar
1tsp baking powder
1/4 cup flour
5/8cup lemon juice
4 eggs

Preheat oven to 350degrees. Grease 9x13 pan.

In a medium bowl, stir together 2 cups of flour and the icing sugar. Blend in the melted butter. Press into bottom of pan.

Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. In a large bowl, beat eggs until light. Combine the white sugar, baking powder and 1/4cup flour so there is no lumps. Stir the sugar mix into the eggs. Add the lemon juice and pour over the prepared crust and return to oven.

Bake for an additional 30 minutes or until bars are set. Allow to cool completely before cutting.

summertime

Wow, it's been awhile eh? I didn't plan on taking a little blog vacay but seems that I did. Summer has kicked off with a bang here. We had grad(can hardly believe that I am the mom of a high school graduate!), than Canada Day and we also made a surprise trip to Jim's grandparents to celebrate the 4th of July. The weather has been stellar; hot, hot and hotter. That has resulted in lots of time outside; sadly I am still as pasty white as I was in December lol.
As a result, quilting has taken a back seat to real life. And I am surprised to say that I haven't minded in the slightest. This week we have been doing VBS with our church and I have found some time to sew. And sew I did.

My mom and I made a grad quilt for a friend of A's. We took her less favorite colours out of the quilt and I ended up making 2 lap quilts out of the leftovers.
We added a few Bella solids that matched the line. I love this fabric line.

And the second quilt

This is my favorite block out of both quilts.

I've also finally had some progress on my summer quilt. I had actually bought this fabric to make a quilt for myself last summer and never got around to it. I started cutting it out a few weeks ago(took a lot longer than I care to admit lol) and the blocks finally started coming together last night.

The pattern calls for 88 blocks to make a 90x100 quilt. I want mine at around 115square so I just made blocks until I ran out of fabric.

I think I have enough.

As always, with summer here I won't be blogging as frequently as usual. Only 6 more weeks until school goes back; lots of summer left to play in!
